More Globetrotting
Unfortunately, the rescue operation fails, and one of the female officers
becomes the acting captain. Around this point, a certain Chinese restaurant
girl rises to prominence as singer aboard the ship. The Megaload return
once again to the battered Earth, where the former United States gets
destroyed. The grand tour continues through the Panama Canal and down to
South America in the Mayan ruins. As if Machu Pichu and the Mayan pyramids
haven't suffered enough indignities throughout the centuries, they are
completely destroyed when the Megaload passes though. A jaunt over the
Atlantic brings the Megaload to Europe for the finale of the series.
All's Well That Ends Well
If all this global sightseeing does not already seem reminscient of the
first MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM series, the Megaload even makes a brief stopover at
the Caspian Sea (the site of pivotal encounters in the 1979-80 Tomino
Yoshiyuki work). The ship also swings by France's Arc de Triomphe d'Etoile,
the Eiffel Tower, and England—before all are reduced to rubble. (There
is a pattern emerging...) The rest of Earth is pulverised nine episodes
before the end, and the final battle with the enemy's main fleet takes the
beleagured Megaload back to space. All is not lost though, as the two sides
finally contact and makes amends with each other. The marriage of two
genius pilots from both sides is topped in the following episode by the
marriage of Megaload's acting captain to the enemy supreme commander. The
story ends with the Megaload sojourning back to Earth as the last
remaining city...
